British New Testament Conference

September 16, 2009 at 5:01 pm (News, Pictures, Trips)

A few weeks ago, Mike attended and presented a paper at the British New Testament Conference in Aberdeen. The title of his paper was “Isotheoi Timai and the Worship of Jesus”….yeah, you’ll have to ask him. I did get to read the paper and hear him practice it a few times before he presented it….I wish I could have been there to cheer him on, but I know he did a fantastic job. He did take the camera with him….but he rarely remembers to take pictures. So I got a shot of him in his suit when he returned. Isn’t he handsome?!

Week 31

September 15, 2009 at 8:14 pm (Baby, News, Pictures)

That’s right folks, this picture is when I was in the last week of month 7…..we’re getting closer! During this week the baby was close to 1.3kg, nearly 3 pounds, and was close to 46 cm long, 18 inches. He is almost reaching what will be his full birth length, but he’ll need to nearly double or triple in girth the next 7 or 8 weeks….yikes! The baby was working on his brain connections this week. He can track light and percive singals using all 5 of his amazing senses! He’s also spending time sleeping, though I wouldn’t know it. He moves all over the place!

Computer Woes

August 8, 2009 at 8:27 am (Baby, Holidays, News)

Hi all…

Just wanted to let you guys know that we haven’t forgotten about you and the weekly update picture! We are currently using our little tiny laptop as the big one has essentially died. We’re looking into our options to see what possibilities are out there for getting another one or fixing the one that we have. In the meantime, however, we have to resort to only typing on the blog without putting pictures into it because we cannot use picasa (the program we use for our pictures) with the little laptop.

So, at the moment I can tell you that we’ve reached the 3rd trimester! Unbelievable…..I’m 28 weeks along now and little Football Paul is busy practicing his moves. I love to feel him move around and get cozy in his temporary home. I’ve been feeling fine, but have been getting just a few uncomfortable twangs now and again when I need to just change position to give us both a little more room. What a fascinating ride we’re on!

Daddy is doing well. He’s finishing up an article this week, which is exciting. It’ll be so nice for him to have that off of his plate so he can focus more on preparing for the British New Testament Conference that is coming up in only a few weeks where he’ll be presenting a paper. He’s a hard worker, that Daddy is.

Today Mike is at a rehearsal for Room 65, which is something that our church is involved in while the festival is here for the month of August. At the moment there are tons of people in Edinburgh. Throughout the month of August the population doubles as people come to the city from all over the world to see shows, comedians and just about anything!! Because of the world coming to Edinburgh, our church feels burdened to share the love of Christ with those taking in the city. For 3 weeks in August our church opens its doors for free tea and coffee, musical worship and talks of Jesus for any who are interested. We’re ideally located on the High Street and literally have thousands of people come through the doors to hear of God’s love and receive hospitality from the church….some do even make decisions to change their lives by following Christ. They begin coming to the church and developing their walk with God. Mike is part of Room 65 this year by playing the guitar and singing. He’ll be “on” all week next week in the evenings.

For me, well today I’m going to a garden party….that’s right, a garden party. Never done a garden party before. This is put on by the principal of the University for new staff. While I’ve been at the Uni for nearly a year, I missed the garden party last year and was invited to this years party…why not?! So, I’ll hopefully have pictures of that to share too!

Yesterday, Mike and I enjoyed a light lunch in a place called The Witchery By the Castle. Our friends, Randy and Diane Dean, gave us a voucher for Christmas and we were waiting for the right moment to indulge and enjoy! What a stunning place! You’d never know from the outside of the ambiance that is within. For example, we ate in ‘the secret garden’….who does that?! It was lovely and we’ve got some pictures of that coming as well. Thank you so much, Dean’s, for thinking of this unique gift idea! We had a lovely time!

This week was the perfect week to use that voucher because I’ve been on holiday this week. We were no sooner back from the states when I worked for a week and then had this week off! As you’ll remember, we get 5 weeks of holiday here in the UK. If you’re pregnant, which I happen to be, you get to take all 5 of those weeks BEFORE you take maternity (or you can add it on to either end of your maternity leave if you’d prefer). I opted to use this week to do things that I will not otherwise be able to easily do once baby comes along. I got my haircut, had a mummy to be massage, made cards, quilted, watched Gone With the Wind with a girlfriend, went to a movie with my honey, tried fun recipes, had nice quiet devotional time with God, went out for coffee and read books…..I went through maternity clothes that had been sent from home (thank you so very much…I love being able to breathe!) and got a few things ready for baby’s arrival….what a week! It’s been a lovely, quiet week and I almost hate the thought of going back to work on Tuesday….though I love the people and the work that I do. My job will be changing when I go back on Tuesday as well, but I’ll update on that in another blog because it’s getting hard to type on this little computer! I’m not used to this. I think cutting my nails would help…..nah.

Okay, we’ll sign off for now, but will hopefully get some pictures to you soon.

Love you all….fill us in on your lives when you have time!

Not much new….

April 10, 2009 at 8:43 am (News)

While the winter months were full of visitors and travel we haven’t had too many big things going on since the new year. I felt like it was time to update, though, since we haven’t written anything on our blog for over a month.

Mike is working hard on his research though is presently preoccupied with writing a chapter for a book that is unrelated to his study. He’s hoping to crank through and finish the chapter in the next week or so allowing him to resume his usual studies in the book of Revelation.

Work is plugging away for me. It’s gotten quite quiet at the gym. The students are on their Easter holidays and so there’s just not much action at the gym.

The weather is starting to get nicer, which is always a plus. The city looks entirely different when the sun is shining!

Will try to have a more exiciting update by the end of April!

The bus less travelled

September 13, 2007 at 7:44 pm (News)

That’s right…..I have had my first taking the wrong bus experience.  I was leaving work yesterday and was planning to meet my honey for a Keighley, which is a traditional Scottish dance.

I did get on the correct number of bus, which was 42, however, after 20 mintues of unfamiliarity and ending up seeing some of the country, the bus stopped with me and only one other fellow on it.  The driver stepped off for a smoke, changed his sign on the front of the bus and I asked if the bus made the stop that I was looking for.  Yes, it would, but I had gotten on going the wrong way……

So, 20 minutes back in the other direction means that Mike and I were going to be nearly and hour late for the Keighley.  The first hour is when all of the lessons occur and I had just worked for 8 hours and was dead on my feet anyway, and frustrated with getting the wrong bus….so, to make things better, we went out for some dinner.  (Yum, mussels)

I was working early then, this morning, and was waking up at 5:15 anyway, so to get our monies worth at the dance we’d have had to stay for a while…..alas, another Keighley is planned at the school for October.

Thought I’d share my flub up with you all.

Glad to be back on the road more travelled……..

Trudy

Took a few more pics of the city…..and the castle….will post them in the next day or so…….
