Computer Woes
Hi all…
Just wanted to let you guys know that we haven’t forgotten about you and the weekly update picture! We are currently using our little tiny laptop as the big one has essentially died. We’re looking into our options to see what possibilities are out there for getting another one or fixing the one that we have. In the meantime, however, we have to resort to only typing on the blog without putting pictures into it because we cannot use picasa (the program we use for our pictures) with the little laptop.
So, at the moment I can tell you that we’ve reached the 3rd trimester! Unbelievable…..I’m 28 weeks along now and little Football Paul is busy practicing his moves. I love to feel him move around and get cozy in his temporary home. I’ve been feeling fine, but have been getting just a few uncomfortable twangs now and again when I need to just change position to give us both a little more room. What a fascinating ride we’re on!
Daddy is doing well. He’s finishing up an article this week, which is exciting. It’ll be so nice for him to have that off of his plate so he can focus more on preparing for the British New Testament Conference that is coming up in only a few weeks where he’ll be presenting a paper. He’s a hard worker, that Daddy is.
Today Mike is at a rehearsal for Room 65, which is something that our church is involved in while the festival is here for the month of August. At the moment there are tons of people in Edinburgh. Throughout the month of August the population doubles as people come to the city from all over the world to see shows, comedians and just about anything!! Because of the world coming to Edinburgh, our church feels burdened to share the love of Christ with those taking in the city. For 3 weeks in August our church opens its doors for free tea and coffee, musical worship and talks of Jesus for any who are interested. We’re ideally located on the High Street and literally have thousands of people come through the doors to hear of God’s love and receive hospitality from the church….some do even make decisions to change their lives by following Christ. They begin coming to the church and developing their walk with God. Mike is part of Room 65 this year by playing the guitar and singing. He’ll be “on” all week next week in the evenings.
For me, well today I’m going to a garden party….that’s right, a garden party. Never done a garden party before. This is put on by the principal of the University for new staff. While I’ve been at the Uni for nearly a year, I missed the garden party last year and was invited to this years party…why not?! So, I’ll hopefully have pictures of that to share too!
Yesterday, Mike and I enjoyed a light lunch in a place called The Witchery By the Castle. Our friends, Randy and Diane Dean, gave us a voucher for Christmas and we were waiting for the right moment to indulge and enjoy! What a stunning place! You’d never know from the outside of the ambiance that is within. For example, we ate in ‘the secret garden’….who does that?! It was lovely and we’ve got some pictures of that coming as well. Thank you so much, Dean’s, for thinking of this unique gift idea! We had a lovely time!
This week was the perfect week to use that voucher because I’ve been on holiday this week. We were no sooner back from the states when I worked for a week and then had this week off! As you’ll remember, we get 5 weeks of holiday here in the UK. If you’re pregnant, which I happen to be, you get to take all 5 of those weeks BEFORE you take maternity (or you can add it on to either end of your maternity leave if you’d prefer). I opted to use this week to do things that I will not otherwise be able to easily do once baby comes along. I got my haircut, had a mummy to be massage, made cards, quilted, watched Gone With the Wind with a girlfriend, went to a movie with my honey, tried fun recipes, had nice quiet devotional time with God, went out for coffee and read books…..I went through maternity clothes that had been sent from home (thank you so very much…I love being able to breathe!) and got a few things ready for baby’s arrival….what a week! It’s been a lovely, quiet week and I almost hate the thought of going back to work on Tuesday….though I love the people and the work that I do. My job will be changing when I go back on Tuesday as well, but I’ll update on that in another blog because it’s getting hard to type on this little computer! I’m not used to this. I think cutting my nails would help…..nah.
Okay, we’ll sign off for now, but will hopefully get some pictures to you soon.
Love you all….fill us in on your lives when you have time!
Summer 2009 USA Visit!
Here are some pictures from our time in the states. Maryland shots are first followed by pictures from our time in Iowa.
I will have some other baby shower pictures to post in a bit, but here is a sample for now of all that we were able to do.
We were in Maryland from July 2nd to the 14th and then flew to Iowa on the 14th and left on the 25th arriving back in Edinburgh on the 26th. It was a nice long visit because we’re anticipating that it’ll be the last visit before moving back to the states next summer.
Thankfully, we’re still planning to see some family when the baby arrives, but they’ll be coming this way. So we took advantage of our time while home and saw lots of people, ate lots of food and enjoyed a wonderful time!
Hope you enjoy!

Happy Trails….
Hello all! I’m so sorry to not have been blogging recently. We’ve been enjoying some nice family time in Maryland and Iowa and it’s been tough to find time to sit and write to you! Pictures, of course, will follow, but we’ll wait until we’re back in Edinburgh to use Picasa on our laptop since others don’t have it downloaded on their computers. We have had a lovely time with family. From July 2nd-14th we were with my family in Maryland (and vacationing all together in Delaware). We finally got to meet our newest nephew Ezekiel Benjamin who is 5 months old and ADORABLE!! He’s such a cute little guy! We got to sit in the sun and read books and play games with family…and eat crabs! It was divine! I was totally surprised by a baby shower in Maryland and just felt so loved and honored by all who attended. I couldn’t believe that I was able to see all of those aunts and cousins that I wasn’t expecting to be able to see! We had such a nice time.
And since the 14th we’ve been in Iowa with Mike’s family. Last night we went to an I-Cubs game and we’ve been enjoying some nice down time here with them. We’ve roasted marshmallows on Carol’s new fire pit and us gals will get to go to tea today. Carol’s friends also hosted a lovely baby shower for us and it was so much fun to feel supported by these ladies who hardly know me….they know Mike and they love me as an extension of him, which is just really sweet!
During this trip, we’ve unveiled the sex of our child to our families (as we wanted to be in person with them to share that news since we weren’t able to share in person that we’re pregnant) and we’ll be glad to pass that info along to any who are interested in person upon return to Edinburgh. It’s been fun to share that with family as well!
We hope you are each doing well and are enjoying your July! I hope it’s not too dreary in Edinburgh. I’m kinda getting used to this nicer weather here!
See you all soon!

4th Anniversary!
I’m a few weeks behind on getting a post up about our anniversary, but wanted to let you all know that Mike and I are 4 GLORIOUS years into our marriage. We are so thankful to be with each other and are so glad to celebrate being together. It was quite a low key celebration. I think we just stayed home and watched a movie because our main gift to each other was a trip to France with our friends Mark and Carmela (pictures to come soon hopefully). So we saved money to have a nice meal out in Monte Carlo. Mike did, however, get me these lovely roses for our anniversary, which are still kickin’ on our kitchen table! Amazing!

My First Mother’s Day

| Mother's Day |
This is technically my first set of flowers for Mother’s Day. Though baby is not here yet, we believe that we’re parents….and since the end of March (I guess technically the end of January or beginning of February), when we found out that there was a little one in there….we will never NOT be parents. And thus, we celebrate Mother’s Day. So my honey thoughtfully got me these beautiful flowers, which continue to bloom in my kitchen.
Easter 2009
This Easter was spent with friends…and working, sadly. I had accidentally swapped shifts with a guy at work without realizing that we were swapping for the Easter weekend. I was not excited to work, however, was really grateful to friends who allowed us to celebrate Easter on either side of my work shift!
We had a lovely dutch Easter breakfast with our friends an, Cirta and Matthew Tooth. Mike really made a cute little connection with Matthew that morning. They were having such a fun time together! Cirta had us guess what shape the bread was in when it came out of the oven…can you tell what it is?!
Then following work we went to our friends Matt and Ashli’s house and met up with other New College friends for an Easter meal…..delicious….and lots of good fellowship!
We enjoyed celebrating with each of you!

Valentine’s Day 2009!
Valentine’s Day was such fun this year. Though, sadly, I did have to work, Mike made a lovely balmoral chicken, which is chicken stuffed with Haggis and wrapped in bacon in a whisky sauce….it was divine. And then for dessert there was a lovely strawberry sponge cake…to die for! He made the evening very special with this delicious work of art!
Sorry that we’re just now getting to blog about these things…been a bit distracted with other things recently…like focusing on baby…too much fun!
