CJ’s B-day!

October 27, 2009 at 3:28 pm (Birthday's, Friends in Scotland, Pictures)

Happy 21st birthday, Clare! What a fun time!

For those of you who don’t know Clare, she is my friend who works at the gym with me. We’ve gotten to know each other over the past year and I’ve really enjoyed getting to know her and spending time with her. She talks to my belly because, as we all know, all children must have a Scottish auntie. She is in love with Mini Mike and has told him through the course of the whole pregnancy to ’stay in there because he’s not cooked yet’…..however, any day now we could meet him! She has been a gem throughout the whole of the pregnancy and I just love her to bits! Enjoy the pics from her birthday!

Celebrations Abound!

May 30, 2008 at 8:12 am (Birthday's, Starbucks)

Well, in case you’re wondering what we’ve been up to recently, we’ve been celebrating!  Three things we have celebrated since our last post are in no particular order:

-Mike’s first year boards

-My giving notice to Starbucks

-Cheryl Crowe’s Birthday

Let’s take a look at each celebration to give you an idea of just how wonderful each item is!!

  • Celebratory item #1: Mike’s First year board was held on May 22nd.  This is basically an opportunity for him to present to the professor’s here what he’s been working on thus far.  He gave them each a copy of his proposal and a writing sample, they had time to review it and think it over and then Mike sat before them to answer their questions and defend his work.  All in all, this was a good experience for him.  He feels like he was able to gain clarity on their expectations and desires for his work.  While it was somewhat stressful to prepare for, he is glad to have had the opportunity to hear from them and get helpful feedback and encouragement for his future work…..he’s so glad that it’s over and done with though! From here on out it’s open work and research for him.  There will be no other boards, just time with his advisor, Professor Hurtado, if he’d like more feedback.  One year down, two more to go!  We celebrated this accomplishment by having dinner at Bella Italia and going to see the Mike-chosen movie, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.  We had a great time honoring Mike’s accomplishments!  Way to go, honey!
  • Celebratory Item #2: I’m very ready to leave Starbucks.  I’ve given it a good go.  While it began well, it’s been a stressful and frustrating experience that continues to bring me down.  Therefore, my last day will be June 18th.  It got to the point where I was getting anxious to go to work and having dreams about work…..just not good!  I have signed on a fixed contractual basis with Office Angels, which is a temp agency here.  I will be working 3-6 months at a time and covering for people’s maternity leave and extended holidays.  While this is not ideal, it is a job and will continue to help bring money in.
  • Celebratory Item #3: Cheryl Crowe had a birthday!  Yay Cheryl!  (In the brown top to my left, your right) And we celebrated her by going to Las Tesca for some tapas!  We had a fantastic night of just being together and wearing party hats.  Does it get any better?!  While there, we were all flattered to have a gentleman approach our table and tell us how much fun it looked like we were having.  (And he was right, we were having fun!)  Apparently his brother fancied us but was too shy to come over himself….he wanted to take a picture of us….he was shocked to find out that each and every one of us was married!!  (I think he was hoping for better odds than that).  He was a bit embarrassed, but it was a hilarious part of the evening!  So, we did let him take our picture, but only if we could proudly display our wedding bands….a tribute to our guys.  We love you Mike, Brandon, Jonathan, Matt and Derek!!

So, let us know what your celebrations have been over the past month…we want to know!  We love you all!

Proper Tea Time

February 9, 2008 at 8:52 pm (Birthday's)

For my birthday this year Mike gave me a cute little bone china mug that was decorated with winnie the pooh and filled with chocolate covered toffees. That gift was just a hint, however, of what the other part of the gift was to be, which was a proper tea in a tea room. We went to the Old Waverly Hotel and had scones, little sandwiches, fruit tarts, tortilla chips (didn’t know that was a tea snack)….and of course….tea. We had a brilliant time.

Birthday Festivities

December 27, 2007 at 7:34 pm (Birthday's, Friends in Scotland)

I was able to enjoy a lovely birthday here in Edinburgh with some great friends! Cheryl, Katie and I went out for dessert and coffee to a fun little spot called Hamilton’s in Stockbridge……..here we are enjoying some Bailey’s Cheesecake, Raspberry Panacotta and Apple Crumble along with lattes and americano’s! Thanks for sharing in my day ladies and for making it special with fun personally made stationary and a lovely scarf!

When I got home from being out with the gals, Mike had an amazing meal prepared for me of steak with a Blue Cheese crust, shrimp in pasta, peas and garlic bread! So yummy! Here are a few pics of our fun….

And then to top it off we had two very fun skype calls from family!  Mike’s parents now have skype and so we got to chat with them and my sister in law gathered all the troops into PA and sent their birthday greetings as well!  It was great to see everyone!

Thanks for a great 2007!

Mike’s Birthday Extravaganza

September 10, 2007 at 11:06 am (Birthday's)

Hi all! So, I couldn’t put these pictures in the correct order, so sorry for any confusion. Yesterday, the 9th of September, was Mike’s birthday and we had a lovely time celebrating. We began with an international fest for new student’s at his school (thanks for the permissions to go, Penny!!) and then I took him to lunch at Jackson’s Restaurant on High Street. We came back to the flat after shopping at a few shops and then relaxed with cake and icecream! It was such fun! I checked to see if there were any specific Scottish birthday traditions, and it turns out that they do what we do….sing the song, blow out the candles and eat the cake……wish they did something a little different ’cause I wanted to give him something traditional to Scotland, but no dice. Anyway, enjoy the pictures of us celebrating.

Also, the building that looks like it has two towers on the front of it is New College, which is where Mike will be going to school. Now you know where he’ll be!

Love to all,

Trudy
