Glasgow Day Trip
This past weekend Clare and I went on a wee day trip to Glasgow, where she’s from. We had a lovely lunch and took a walk through Glasgow University and enjoyed a few little shops as well. Thanks for taking me along with you, Clare. That was a very special day for me!

Mairi’s 30th B-Day!
This is my good friend, Mairi Connor. Mairi turned 30 in early August and had a lovely meal at the church to celebrate. We enjoyed excellent lasagna, beautiful desserts….but most of all, we loved celebrating the gal we love. Happy birthday, Mairi!

Fun new recipe
This was a fun little recipe to make…..
Be not deceived, it’s not the pizza it presents itself to be….it’s a strawberry jam tart! My Mom sent me the Rachel Ray magazine and I’ve been having fun working through last year’s October edition…the Halloween version…so I’m making things like this that present as one thing, but turn out to be something that you don’t expect. Another example, tonight for dinner we had what looked like cupcakes, but were actually meatloaf in cupcake form with “white frosting” made of mashed potatoes…how fun is that?! I’ll tell you what, it was fun to eat!
So this little pastry tart has a puff pastry base standing in as dough, a yummy strawberry syrup mixture standing in for the marinara sauce, a mascarpone and honey mixture that looks like globs of mozzarella and then some nice little bits of mint to look like basil…fun, huh?!

Week 30!!
Okay, now we’re up to date with pictures…this is what I looked like 2 days ago at week 30. The baby is about the same weight and length as the previous week, so he’s holding steady. The baby’s brain is really growing this week….that’s our major form of development for the week. You get smart in there, little guy!
As we count up weeks, may we also remember now to count down. Week 30 means 10 more weeks if this is a normal 40 week pregnancy. 10 more weeks means 2.5 months….2.5 months means maternity leave starts in 2 months…starting next week we will be counting down in single digit weeks….what the world?!

Week 29!!
Here we are at week 29. 43 cm long, almost 17 inches and 1.3 kg, just under 3 lbs. The biggest piece of information for me this week is that in the next 11 weeks (the rest of this trimester) the baby will double or possibly triple in size…..oh my gosh, did we read that right…..double or TRIPLE in size! Please, God, help me!
Because of the increasing cramped space in there I’ll be feeling less hard kicks and more pokes from elbows and knees….should be interesting.

Week 28!!
Welcome to week 28! During this week we move out of month 6 and into month 7…the final trimester! The baby is now 1.1kg, just over 2 lbs. and could be nearly 40 cm long, just over 15 in. The skill this week for the baby is lots more blinking! He can now cough, suck, hiccup, take breaths…and blink! Blink away, little man! The baby has also started having his own REM sleep! He could be dreraming away in there. So fun to think of him….

Week 27!
And here we are at week 27….forgot to mention what the baby is doing and how he’s growing these weeks.
For week 26 the baby was weighing in at 900g, which is just under 2 lbs. He’d be about 23 cm long, which is just over 9 inches…..so cute. His eyes were just beginning to open this week so if he got startled by a bright light or loud sound he would be more reactive and have a startle response. What a sweetie.
And then for week 27 we learned that they go from measuring from crown to rump to measuring from head to toe. He was 38 cm this week, which is nearly 15 inches….what a jump from the previous week, huh?! He’s just gained a few grams, so no big jump in weight this week. During week 27, the baby has the most taste buds that he will EVER have. Crazy, huh?! So, I was encouraged to be eating things that I’d like him to enjoy eating down the road…bring the bananas, carrots and tomatoes!

Week 26!
We are back up and running folks….so get ready for some pics! We’ve got a few weeks to catch up on. As I type, I am 30 weeks along in this wonderful pregnancy, so keep watching for the updated pictures! Here is a taster….week 26.

Computer Woes
Hi all…
Just wanted to let you guys know that we haven’t forgotten about you and the weekly update picture! We are currently using our little tiny laptop as the big one has essentially died. We’re looking into our options to see what possibilities are out there for getting another one or fixing the one that we have. In the meantime, however, we have to resort to only typing on the blog without putting pictures into it because we cannot use picasa (the program we use for our pictures) with the little laptop.
So, at the moment I can tell you that we’ve reached the 3rd trimester! Unbelievable…..I’m 28 weeks along now and little Football Paul is busy practicing his moves. I love to feel him move around and get cozy in his temporary home. I’ve been feeling fine, but have been getting just a few uncomfortable twangs now and again when I need to just change position to give us both a little more room. What a fascinating ride we’re on!
Daddy is doing well. He’s finishing up an article this week, which is exciting. It’ll be so nice for him to have that off of his plate so he can focus more on preparing for the British New Testament Conference that is coming up in only a few weeks where he’ll be presenting a paper. He’s a hard worker, that Daddy is.
Today Mike is at a rehearsal for Room 65, which is something that our church is involved in while the festival is here for the month of August. At the moment there are tons of people in Edinburgh. Throughout the month of August the population doubles as people come to the city from all over the world to see shows, comedians and just about anything!! Because of the world coming to Edinburgh, our church feels burdened to share the love of Christ with those taking in the city. For 3 weeks in August our church opens its doors for free tea and coffee, musical worship and talks of Jesus for any who are interested. We’re ideally located on the High Street and literally have thousands of people come through the doors to hear of God’s love and receive hospitality from the church….some do even make decisions to change their lives by following Christ. They begin coming to the church and developing their walk with God. Mike is part of Room 65 this year by playing the guitar and singing. He’ll be “on” all week next week in the evenings.
For me, well today I’m going to a garden party….that’s right, a garden party. Never done a garden party before. This is put on by the principal of the University for new staff. While I’ve been at the Uni for nearly a year, I missed the garden party last year and was invited to this years party…why not?! So, I’ll hopefully have pictures of that to share too!
Yesterday, Mike and I enjoyed a light lunch in a place called The Witchery By the Castle. Our friends, Randy and Diane Dean, gave us a voucher for Christmas and we were waiting for the right moment to indulge and enjoy! What a stunning place! You’d never know from the outside of the ambiance that is within. For example, we ate in ‘the secret garden’….who does that?! It was lovely and we’ve got some pictures of that coming as well. Thank you so much, Dean’s, for thinking of this unique gift idea! We had a lovely time!
This week was the perfect week to use that voucher because I’ve been on holiday this week. We were no sooner back from the states when I worked for a week and then had this week off! As you’ll remember, we get 5 weeks of holiday here in the UK. If you’re pregnant, which I happen to be, you get to take all 5 of those weeks BEFORE you take maternity (or you can add it on to either end of your maternity leave if you’d prefer). I opted to use this week to do things that I will not otherwise be able to easily do once baby comes along. I got my haircut, had a mummy to be massage, made cards, quilted, watched Gone With the Wind with a girlfriend, went to a movie with my honey, tried fun recipes, had nice quiet devotional time with God, went out for coffee and read books…..I went through maternity clothes that had been sent from home (thank you so very much…I love being able to breathe!) and got a few things ready for baby’s arrival….what a week! It’s been a lovely, quiet week and I almost hate the thought of going back to work on Tuesday….though I love the people and the work that I do. My job will be changing when I go back on Tuesday as well, but I’ll update on that in another blog because it’s getting hard to type on this little computer! I’m not used to this. I think cutting my nails would help…..nah.
Okay, we’ll sign off for now, but will hopefully get some pictures to you soon.
Love you all….fill us in on your lives when you have time!
